Over the course of a career that’s lasted almost forty years - and that’s not allowing for an eight-year break after an initial split in 1976 - Deep Purple have cemented their position as one of the most influential rock and roll bands in the history of the genre. Furthermore, they’re considered genuine pioneers of both hard rock and heavy metal after having moved away from initial roots in progressive rock, and have the commercial clout to back up their towering status within the rock community; they’ve sold in excess of one hundred million albums internationally. The current lineup features just one original member, Ian Paice on drums, although frontman Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover both joined the band shortly after they began, in 1969. Steve Morse, on guitar, and Don Airey on keys round out the five-piece as they stand today, and they continue to tour and record; their latest album, “Now What?!”, was released in April of 2013, and flirted with progressive metal. From then on they gave a blistering and thunderous performance! The visual effects and lighting were spectacular! Their stage presence was commanding and presentation very tight and spot on! The band was extremely tight and witnessing Steve Morse shred the guitar was worth the price of admission alone. They ripped through two hours of classics including a couple of new tunes off their latest album which was just as strong. Sometimes it was difficult to recognize the song and hear a melody. Members of the band, the musicians, worked hard and well, unfortunately, Ian Gillan has to retire. It was hard to hear him singing, he often was disappearing from stage. That, to say, in my opinion, he used to be "the Nail" of the shows with his high notes. Joey Tempest was his usual 80s flamboyant self, and the sound was cracking! Depp Purple were superb. This line-up is tight and settled, with some excellent playing in the original Purple vein. Judas Priest played before Deep Purple and blew the (non-existent) roof off the place. Their experience and chops were on full display. Deep Purple headlined and played lots of the crowd favorites. Wieloletnie funkcjonowanie w muzycznym showbiznesie wiąże się zazwyczaj z bogatym katalogiem albumów, a także rozmaitymi kolaboracjami z bardziej lub mniej znanymi postaciami. Pisząc te słowa mam na myśli urodzonego w Anglii wokalistę Davida Covedale’a, który pierwsze kroki w budowaniu swojej kariery stawiał już jako czternastoletni chłopiec, a jako piętnastolatek dawał profesjonalne występy z zespołem Vintage 67 (1966 rok) i kilka lat później z formacjami The Government i Fabulosa Brothers. Jego kariera nabrała rozpędu kiedy jako dwudziestodwuletni młodzieniec (1973 rok) dołączył wraz z basistą Glennem Hughesem do zespołu Deep Purple, by zastąpić na stanowisku wokalisty Iana Gillana. Po opuszczeniu zespołu i nagraniu dwóch solowych albumów, Coverdale stworzył nową formację o nazwie Whitesnake, która od 1978 roku (z przerwami) funkcjonuje do dziś. Ostatnim jej longplayem jest wydany w 2015 roku „The Purple Album” zawierający ponownie nagrane utwory powstałe w czasie współpracy wokalisty z grupą Deep Purple. Mimo tego, że obecnie o frontmanie Whitesnake można powiedzieć wiele, tylko nie to, że jest młody, to utwory „Burn” otwierający setlistę i wykonany wespół z Rebem Beachem „The Gypsy” zabrzmiały naprawdę żywiołowo. Duża w tym zasługa gitarzystów z zaangażowaniem wykonujących swoją pracę, ozdabiając kolejne pozycje solówkami – Joel Hoekstra w „Love Ain’t No Stranger” i akompaniując Covedale’owi na gitarze akustycznej podczas „Soldier of Fortune”, a Reb Beach dostojnie otwierając ciężki „Mistreated”, a następnie dając popis swoich umiejętności w solówce do „Fool for Your Loving”. Pochwały należą się również sekcji rytmicznej tworzonej przez dorównującego wiekiem Covedale’owi, Tommy’ego Aldridge’a wytrwale nadającego tempa poszczególnym utworom, a kompozycję „You Fool No One” uzupełniając swoją żywiołową solówką zakończoną bez używania pałeczek. Swoją obecność, może nie tak wyraźnie jak Aldridge, podczas koncertu akcentował również basista Michael Devin, pilnując rytmu i wokalnie wspierając Covedale’a. Istotną rolę odegrała w tym wydarzeniu również publiczność chóralnie odśpiewując fragment pochodzącego z początkowego okresu twórczości Whitesnake „Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City” czy włączając się w wykonanie żwawego rytmicznie „Bad Boys”. Muzyczna całość koncertu dopełniona została przyjemnymi dla oka wizualizacjami prezentowanymi na ogromnych ekranach stanowiących tło sceny oraz świetlnymi projekcjami rozjaśniającymi koncertową salę i najważniejsze postacie – muzyków grupy Whitesnake. Wszystkie te elementy składają się na solidny, choć nieszczególnie długi koncert (nieco ponad osiemdziesiąt minut), którego jedynym mankamentem jest momentami rzucająca się w oczy minimalna niezgodność obrazu z dźwiękiem (oczyszczane wokale?), co z racji wieku Coverdale’a można wybaczyć, zważywszy na naprawdę widowiskowy show, jaki wokalista robi ze swoimi kolegami. Zdaję sobie sprawę iż być może ostatnia taka impreza tak wielkich muzyków w tym kraju. Kto nie był niech żałuje. Więcej nie napiszę bo po prostu słowa nie oddadzą ducha imprezy.
